Much-Afraid was worried that the Shepherd might have thought that she had changed her mind not to go to the high places. So she woke up during the night and went searching for the Shepherd. She went to the fields to find the shepherd, but instead she saw the watchmen. The watchmen told her that the shepherd now was traveling to the high places. Much-Afraid was shocked, and continue searching for him. Before the sun rises they met each other and go on their journey to the High Places.

Up to one point, the Chief Shepherd told Much-Afraid that he will be around ready to help her, but for now he will be giving Sorrow and Suffering as Much-Afraid's companion. Sorrow and Suffering will be the helpers of Much-Afraid, and their job is to help Much-Afraid go throughout her path and through obstacles. When Much-Afraid had first met Sorrow and Suffering, she was afraid of them. Sorrow and Suffering were big and strong women. Much-Afraid though that they are going to be rough with her, but when she got to know them, she realized that they were very kind and affectionate, and soon they become good friends.

Much-Afraid, Chief Shepherd, and Sorrow and Suffering, traveled through the desert. Everywhere they look, there were no trees at all. At night they slept in a hut beside the pyramid. The Chief Shepherd showed Much-Afraid how the Egyptians crunched the grains into powders. What the Shepherd is trying to show is that, the grains passed so many procedures for it to be ready to become a very good quality bread, what steps must it pass. This example is compared to how Much-Afraid will be getting ready to be the best of her.
